Sophias Thai Bar and Kitchen

About us

Sophia’s opened its doors in 1995 as Davis’s very first Thai restaurant—and nearly three decades later, we’re still cooking for the town we grew up with.

Our food is rooted in country-style Thai cooking: bold, balanced, and built on the sweet-spicy backbone of Southeast Asian cuisine. Over the years, we’ve layered in a distinctly California sensibility, letting peak-season produce and fresh, vibrant ingredients shape the menu without losing sight of where the food comes from.

Locals have been kind to us. Sophia’s was named Yolo County’s Best Thai Food for 24 consecutive years (and counting) by The Davis Enterprise, with additional nods from regional and statewide publications. More importantly, generations of students, professors, families, and regulars have made us part of their routines—first dates, graduations, weeknight dinners, and late-night cocktails included.

We don’t take reservations, so showing up early is part of the ritual.

At the bar, things slow down in the best way. Candlelight, a tropical fish tank, and a lively patio set the scene for cocktails that have earned cult status over the years—from the Lava Lamp to the Mai Thai to our famously strong Mojito. The back bar runs deep, with a serious selection of Scotch and bourbon, plus beers ranging from local Northern California breweries to Thailand and Belgium.

Whether you’re meeting friends after work, celebrating something big, or just craving a plate of food that feels familiar and exciting at the same time, Sophia’s is still right where it’s always been-serving Davis.
